Lets Discuss Ak 47s
Thinking of finally investing in an AK47
So far my research has led me to conclude: In order, best quality to lowest quality: 1)Chinese Norinco 2)Hungarian 3)Russian 4) Bulgarian 5)Romanian 6)? 7)? PLEASE REVISE THIS LIST IF YOU DISAGREE. Also: I am seeing BAYONETS FOR SALE but no BAYONET LUGS, do these come with the rife, if not, are they hard to find, whats the deal, how much are they? |

You left out Arsenal (US made) Ak's that are at the top of the stack or at least near it. The Norinco's are collectors' items and I don't think they're worth the extra $$$ spent IMO. Bulgarians are the best all around for sure but don't discount Hungarian AMD's either. :bear_thumb: Personally, I own a Romanian RPK which is a variant sporting a 22" heavy barrel and it's a bit more accurate. Think of squad weapon instead of battle rifle. Oh crap, you left out YUGOSLAVIAN's !!! Those YUGO's are heavy duty and great performers ! My personal fav from Classic Arms : YUGO - M72 AK RIFLE http://www.classicarms.us/images/ROD7.jpg $549.95 >> http://www.classicarms.us/ |
Re: Lets Discuss Ak 47s
The bayonet lugs are a part of the rifle, but many rifles have them ground off. rifles without bayonet lugs helped make them legal under the assault weapons ban because without bayonets the rifle was magically less dangerous and scary and would kill less babies.
now that the assault weapons ban is expired, ak rifles can have the bayonet lugs legally. if you get a rifle without a bayonet lug it is not feasible to attach a bayonet to the rifle. maybe if you wanted to spend several hundred dollars at a machine shop they might be able to weld one back on. none of my AKs have bayonet lugs but I dont care cause bayonets are kinda retarded this day and age. one thing I wish my AKs had were the side rails. the side rails probably add stability to the rifle and I would like to mount a holographic sight with a side rail, but I cant. |

Your forgetting two very good quality variants of the Kalashnikov design.
The Galil in both 223 and 308 and the Valmet also in both NATO calibers. |

Re: Lets Discuss Ak 47s
I like the AKs built by Arsenal a lot, and have one in my bug-out location. It's a great carbine!
Here's the Arsenal website: http://www.arsenalinc.com/about.htm |

Re: Lets Discuss Ak 47s
Here's a nice site for studying up on what your options are before you buy one. There's enough variation in AKs that just listing quality by country is oversimplification.
http://www.ak-47.net/ak47/index.php I have a Romanian SAR. It's okay. Not the best. Not the worst. It was a nightmare to clean. Apparently, Romanians really love cosmoline. I had to haul out my steam cleaner. Lol! |

I got an email from a fellow at Adobe who develops their software products, after complimenting his pistol collection. It is a very impressive collection to say the least. If I had lots of spare cash I'd probably engage in similar tomfoolery. :yippee: |
